Product Details Propulsive and unforgettable, Haart’s story is the journey from a world of no to a world of yes, and an inspiration for women everywhere to find their freedom, their purpose, and their voice. ![]() Along the way, her four children-Batsheva, Shlomo, Miriam, and Aron-have not only accepted but embraced her transformation. Soon she would become co-owner and CEO of Elite World Group, and one of the most powerful people in the fashion industry. Just a few years later, she was named creative director of La Perla. Within a week of her escape, Haart founded a shoe brand, and within nine months, she was at Paris Fashion Week. At the age of forty-two, she finally mustered the courage to flee the fundamentalist life that was strangling her soul. She started preparing for her escape by educating herself and creating a “freedom” fund. But when no one was looking, Haart would pore over fashion magazines and sketch designs for the clothes she dreamed about wearing in the world beyond her Orthodox suburb. In the ultra-Orthodox world, clothing has one purpose-to cover the body, head to toe-and giving any thought to one’s appearance beyond that is considered sinful, an affront to God. She knew that if she didn’t find a way to leave, her daughters would be forced into the same unending servitude that had imprisoned her. Eventually, when Haart’s younger daughter, Miriam, started to innocently question why she wasn’t allowed to sing in public, run in shorts, or ride a bike without being covered from neck to knee, Haart reached a breaking point. ![]() For the next twenty-three years, her marriage would rule her life. At nineteen, after a lifetime spent caring for her seven younger siblings, she was married off to a man she barely knew. Written with great intensity and rare candor, Brazen is a story of longing for more and manifesting that vision.”-Tommy HilfigerĮver since she was a child, every aspect of Julia Haart’s life-what she wore, what she ate, what she thought-was controlled by the dictates of ultra-Orthodox Judaism. I recommend it to anyone who is opening his/her eyes regarding organized religion and the damaging limiting effect it has on human personal life. From the star of the Netflix reality series My Unorthodox Life, a riveting, inspiring memoir of one woman’s escape from an extremist religious sect and an extraordinary rise from housewife to shoe designer, to CEO and co-owner of the modeling agency Elite World Group Batsheva on the other hand is half baked, she is trying to come out of her religious shell but at the same time she has her husband who is guilt-tripping her for wearing jeans and other nonsense of the sort, yes really have to wonder who is in the wrong here! So all in all, not the best reality show on TV but very interesting context and an enjoyable and inspirational watch of an uber successful woman who is trying to save her family from the claws of fundamentalism. You can literally see Julia breaking down crying realizing he has probably fallen in too deep into the abyss of fundamentalism and religion to be rescued. For example, Aron thinks that he wants to live a life of Religion, but only because he knows nothing else and is not even allowed to explore it or even talk to girls, he is only 14 and has literally been brainwashed since he was a baby. But she does know better than most of her children what is good for them, and only wants the best as is clear that many of them are still suffering and under influence of the fundamentalist mentality they grew up in. Is she controlling and stubborn? Perhaps. ![]() She came from a very traditional fundamentalist background, and rose like a phoenix and made herself the successful self made woman head of Elite World Management that she is. 1st of all the leading lady Julia is an inspiration to many. Cleary a butcher job from the Orthodox community that felt called out. However to my shock it has a 4.3 rating, so I started reading the reviews and most of them are un argumented 1 star reviews. Then I went to see the imdb rating, expecting it to be around a 7.5. It is far from perfect but very enjoyable and inspirational. So I have been enjoying this show for quite some time. ![]()
